News from Wollaton Park Golf Club Junior Section

There is now a Junior Notice Board in the Mixed Lounge where you can sign up for the various events for this season – and junior trophies are on display in the main entrance hall.

Summer Matchplay Leagues all juniors (under 21 at 1/1/07) will be eligible to take part, with or without a handicap.  The handicap players will compete for the MJS Rush Cup, donated by Michael, John and Steven Rush, whilst non-handicap players will have their own league, playing for the Secretary’s Salver, donated by the Club Secretary Avril Jamieson.  Both leagues will run throughout the summer – it’s a great way of getting to know other junior members and what better way to spend the school holidays!  So sign up now on the Entry Sheet in the Mixed Lounge – no entry fee – closing date for entries is 30^th April.

Sunday 24^th June is the date for this year’s Ross Trophy – kindly sponsored by David and Brian Ross with a fantastic prize table, this competition is open to juniors from Wollaton Park, Nottingham City and Bulwell Forest.  You do not need a handicap to take part – there are prizes for handicap and non-handicap players – and no entry fee !  Last year was a great fun day, so make sure you don’t miss out and get your entry form in as soon as possible.

The Junior Masters competition on Sunday 8^th July is only for Wollaton Park juniors – generously sponsored by Tony Hoffman with a superb prize fund – competing for The Hoffman Cup.  Again, you do not need a handicap to enter – entry is free – so let’s make it a record year for entries with all of our junior members taking part in this annual competition – get your entry form in now!  (Entry forms available on the Club’s website)

We also plan to start Sunday coaching and playing where you just come along about 2 pm, have about half an hour’s coaching with Adam or Craig, and play a friendly competition -  if you’d be interested in this, then please put your name on the sheet in the Mixed Lounge .  If we get enough of you signing up, then we’ll give it a go!  And we’ll also try to organise some friendly comps during the summer holidays – just to keep you busy when you’re not playing your Summer League matches!

Notts County Comps – we need players (under 18) to represent the Club in the Junior League which runs from April to October, with one match per month; the Lamplugh Memorial Team Stableford Trophy on 19^th August at Worksop (teams of 4 players, under 18); The Wardman & Carr Trophies on 3^rd June at Mapperley (pairs, under 21);  and the Henderson & Carlisle Trophies on 9^th September at Wollaton Park (under 21).  Again – just sign up on the notices – by 30^th April please. 

We have over 60 junior members, so let’s see all of you in action this season - If you’re a new member or you don’t have a handicap, if you’re worried about playing in competitions or you don’t know any other junior members, then this is a great way to meet others who feel the same way – and to have some fun !!
