Nottingham Nottingham is one of the most vibrant and stylish cities in the UK and in the top three for shopping. Day and night Nottingham positively buzzes with life, with a great choice of shops, bars, restaurants, theatres, cinemas, galleries, fine hotels, international sporting events all contributing to the exciting landscape. Some of the most popular places of interest with visitors to our city are Nottingham Castle Museum and Art Gallery, the historic Lace Market area, the Caves of Nottingham, the Galleries of Justice, Brewhouse Yard Museum and the next door hostelry Ye Olde Trippe to Jerusalem, the Tales of Robin Hood and the new Nottingham Ice Centre and Arena, which attracts some of the top names from the worlds of both sport, music and entertainment.
A bit further outside of the city centre there's the Grade 11 listed Tudor Wollaton Hall and Park and the former home of Lord Byron, Newstead Abbey, where visitors can spend hours perusing the house and spectacular gardens. Festivals of all kinds are hosted in the city, from the City in the Park pop festival at Wollaton Park and the Riverside Festival on the Trent Embankment in the summer, and the Robin Hood Pageant in the grounds of Nottingham Castle in October. There's a modern-day Sheriff of Nottingham too - no longer the enemy of the people as in the days of Robin Hood and his merrymen, but an important figure for civic duties and representing the City of Nottingham. And we mustn't, of course, forget the world-famous Goose Fair, which comes to our city for four days in early October. There are two major shopping centres in Nottingham, the Victoria Centre and the Broadmarsh Centre, elegant shopping arcades and a wide range of shops around the heart of the city at the Old Market Square and surrounding streets offering top quality designer clothing, furnishings, arts and accessories and household items. At night, the choice is endless with restaurants offering cuisine from around the world, traditional-style pubs, trendy wine bars and coffee houses. For the young crowd, Nottingham is the clubbing hot spot of the Midlands with venues to cater for every taste from 70's revival to hip hop and salsa. The Nottingham area boasts two football teams, Nottingham Forest and Notts County; a world class Test cricket ground at Trent Bridge; the National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrepont; and the internationally renowned Tennis Centre. Situated in the centre of England, Nottingham is easy to reach, with London just an hour and forty minutes away by train and Nottingham East Midlands airport just 12 miles away. |
